Robert Dawson “Bob” Hoagland 81 of Charlotte died Tuesday afternoon, March 6, 2018 at CMC-Main.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at 2:30 PM Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Norwood. Charles Woodall will officiate. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home.
Bob was born August 13, 1936 in El Paso County, Texas to the late Col Robert John Hoagland, M.D. and Thurma Pritchard Justus Hoagland. He served in the US Army in Intelligence Operations. He was a retired Attorney, having practiced in Germany and Charlotte. He was a life-long supporter of his alma maters, The US Army Academy at West Point, Davidson College and the University of Virginia.
Bob served as an usher for many years at Calvary Church, Charlotte. He enjoyed square dancing and founded a square dance club for single adults. He also played bridge, and sang in the chorus with Opera Carolina. He was a member of the Gentleman’s and Fidelis clubs. Devoted to understanding current events, Bob listened intently to NPR and read four newspapers every day.
He was preceded in death by his brother William Hoagland of Atlanta.
He is survived by his sister Cary Hoagland of Silver Spring, Maryland; his fiancée Audrey Woodall Pinion of Charlotte; her sons, Mitch Pinion (Sarah) of Charlotte and Rob Pinion of Pinellas Park, Florida; and her five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
