Mr. Robert Watkins, better known as Robert Pemberton, was born on February 24, 1953 in Anson County. He left this earthly realm on Wednesday, December 11, 2019. He was in the VA Hospice Home in Salisbury for a few short weeks.
He graduated from North Stanly High School in June of 1971. He entered the US Marines in August 1971 and received an honorable discharge after two years. He attended Stanly Community College and transferred to Durham Technical College where he studied Business Management. Later he re-entered the military, this time, in the US Army in 1975 where he received an honorable discharge after two years. He always had a good job. He last worked for Food Lion as a truck driver. He was a member of Grace Covenant Church and was a faithful New England Patriots fan. He loved nice cars and spending time with family and friends over a good meal.
His father and mother preceded him in death. They were Jake and Elizabeth Barringer Watkins. He was raised by his Uncle and Aunt Richard and Bessie Mae Barringer Pemberton who also preceded him in death. His step-son, James Davis and his brother Roger Watkins, also precedes him in death.
Robert leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife Elaine Little Watkins of the home; two children: a son, Antone S. Baines of Durham NC, and a daughter Tunisha Watkins of Albemarle, NC; a step-daughter: Maxselene Davis of Albemarle, NC ; One brother, Jake and Mary Watkins of Buffalo, NY; One brother-in-law William and Jo Ann Greshim of Concord, NC; Four sisters-in-law, Betty Smith of Albemarle, Sondra Williams of Albemarle, Jessie Davis of Albemarle, and Jocelyn and Mose Benjamin of Norwood; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; A special cousin, Delores Draughn of Philadelphia, PA; Also remembering surrogate daughters, Maydelia Hough Hinville and Partina Owens.
The family would like to thank every friend or family member who came by or called during our hour of grief. Thank you classmates of 1971 for all you did. Also remembering the LeGrand’s, Chambers’, Pemberton’s and Watkins’ families.
