Maude (Morrison) Deaton

Mary Maude Morrison Jarrell Deaton, 90, of Mt. Gilead, surrounded by her loving family, went home to see her Savior, Wednesday night, February 21, 2018, at Trinity Place.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Hamer Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Steven Cline and Rev. Alex Willoughby will officiate and interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday evening, February 23, 2018 at Edwards Funeral Home in Mt. Gilead, NC.

Ms. Deaton was born October 9, 1927, in Richmond County to the late Henry Burke Morrison and Mary Ethel Diggs. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of Hamer Creek Baptist Church where she served her Lord faithfully throughout her life and never failed to tell others about him. She served as Sunday School teacher and sang in the church choir at Hamer Creek for many years. She worked at Gilead Mfg. and Russell Harvelle Hosiery Mills. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, painting, but was never happier than when her family was together. She was a 1944 graduate of Lilesville High School and took art classes at MCC.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husbands, Edward Franklin Jarrell and Gideon Deaton; daughter: Linda Jarrell Garner Williamson; two grandchildren: Billy Hyde and Stephanie Hyde; brothers: H.B., Don, and Richard Morrison, ; and sister: Barbara Morrison Sneed;

She is survived by her daughters:  Betty Sue Haywood (Keith) and Deborah Efird (Jerry); grandchildren: Donna McCormick (Billy), Eddie Haywood (Tracy), and Chad Haywood; great-grandchildren: Jared McCormick, Cheyanna McCormick, Justin Blake (Tiffany), Cody Haywood, Maddox Haywood, Curtis Efird and Sadie Efird; one great-great grandson Grayson Blake; and one sister: Melba Morrison Purvis (Charlie) of Thomasville.

The family will be at the home of Betty Sue Haywood when not at the funeral home.
