Lynwood Hurst

Albert Lynwood Hurst, III, 83, of Norwood formerly of Spartanburg, SC, died peacefully Thursday afternoon, April 18, 2019 at his home. Lynwood loved his adopted home, and the many friends and extended family that he had the privilege to meet.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Norwood. Rev. Karen Kaser-Odor will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Lynwood was born May 19, 1935 in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Albert Lynwood and Freda Voit Hurst. He attended Gray High School in Winston-Salem and Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia. He attended NC State University and was a graduate of Guilford College. He enjoyed a long career as a salesman.

Known to his family and friends as Jelly, his story-telling abilities were unmatched. He had the ability to remember names, details, and conversations with incredible accuracy. He was an avid golfer: no one loved and studied the game more than Jelly.  His personality was marked by extraordinary optimism in all things, loyalty to family and friends, and love of life.

He is survived by his beloved companion for 25 years, Faye Poplin Pope of Norwood; two daughters, Diane Talbert (Chuck) of Charleston, SC and Amy Rush (Tim) of Greenville, SC; his son, David Hurst (Hilary) of Greenville, SC; one brother, Voit Hurst (Patsy) of Greenville, SC; one aunt, Brenda Barkley (Bob) of Greensboro, NC; seven grandchildren:  Dalton Talbert, Laney Talbert, Melissa Hurst Coleman, Claire Hurst Epps, Braxton Ricker, Megan Theisen and Max Rush; and four great-grandchildren.
