Lucy Edwards Martin 95 of Ansonville went to her heavenly home Tuesday Morning, November 28, 2017.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, December 1, 2017 at Red Hill Baptist Church. Rev. Rodney Clements will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Thursday Evening at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood.

Mrs. Martin was born February 19, 1922 in Anson County to the late Kay and Nellie Randall Edwards. She was a 1939 Graduate of Ansonville High School where among her many activities she enjoyed and excelled in basketball. Following high school she graduated from Salisbury Business School and went on to work with Anson County Register of Deeds prior to the birth of her children. After raising her family she worked for many years with Village Florist in Ansonville.

Church was always important to Lucy and especially her beloved Red Hill Baptist Church where she had been active in all phases of church work. She served as church clerk for many years was active in the Women’s Missionary Union and Sunday School. She was also a member of the Ansonville Historical Society.

Mrs. Martin’s greatest love and accomplishment was her family and her devotion to them. A wonderful homemaker, she was an avid gardener. Spending many hours canning and freezing fresh vegetables to share with her family. The love she shared with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will live in their memory for generations to come.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years James Earl “J.E” Martin Jr. Her brothers, Guy and Carey Edwards and her sisters Edna and Mamie Edwards.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Martin Draper and husband George of Chapel Hill; sons, James Earl Martin III, Kenneth Merritt Martin and wife Kay, Benjamin Edwards Martin and wife Allison and Fincher Lee Martin and wife Lynetta all of Ansonville; grandchildren, Chandra (Matt) Stegall, Travis (Whitney) Martin, Ryan Draper, Whitney Draper Edwards (Jake), Kendal Draper, Akela and Lynlee Martin; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Lane Stegall, Merritt and Weston Martin. Sisters-in-law, Sarah Edwards Martin and Laura Mae Edwards and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their appreciation and love to Barbara Ledbetter for her loving care and companionship.
