Gene Burroughs

Larry Eugene “Gene” Burroughs 77 of Mt. Gilead died peacefully surrounded by his loving family Tuesday Morning, November 21, 2017 at his home.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00PM Friday, November 24, 2017 at Pee Dee Presbyterian Church. Rev. Cathy George will officiate and interment will follow in Sharon Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Gene was born September 7, 1940 in Montgomery County to the late Clyde and Julia Lefler Burroughs. He was a 1957 graduate of Mt. Gilead High School and a retired manager of Gilead Home Supply. He was a lifelong member of Pee Dee Presbyterian Church where he had served as Elder.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Virginia Covington Burroughs of the home. One daughter, Julia Beth Hall and husband John of Mt. Gilead. One brother, James Marshall Burroughs of Asheboro. Two sisters, Doris Covington and husband Alton and Edna King all of Mt. Gilead. Two grandsons, Sean Gross and Dakota Davis.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clyde Burroughs Jr., Lacy Burroughs and Howard Burroughs and one grandson, Joey Gross.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly and the Uwharries, 960 North First Street, Albemarle, NC 28001.
