Dorothy "Dot" (Thompson) Byrd

Dorothy Thompson Byrd, 89, of Norwood died Monday evening, August 28, 2017 at Trinity Place.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00PM Thursday, August 31, 2017 in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Norwood. Rev. Julie Hill will officiate and interment will follow in Norview Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Dot was born February 26, 1928 in Stanly County to the late Grover and Ann Robert Ingold Thompson. She was a member of Norwood First Presbyterian Church. She was a retiree of Gilead Manufacturing and for many years worked with her husband at Byrd’s Pure Oil Station in Norwood.

Dot will be remembered for her love of flowers, working in her yard and the love she shared with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Francis Byrd; her son Roy Fred Byrd; three brothers, Worth, J.V. and Shirley Joe Thompson, one sister, Maxine Byrd.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Donna Smith Byrd of Peachland; two granddaughters, Beverly Byrd Bowles and husband Bryan of Norwood and Crystal Byrd Szvetitz and husband Thomas of Fuquay Varina; five great-grandchildren, Daniel and Conner Bowles of Norwood and Ashlyn, Trenton and Brianna Szvetitz of Fuquay Varina; two brothers, Roy and Larry Thompson both of Norwood; two sisters, Joyce Miller and Emma Hutchinson both of Norwood.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Trinity Place for their loving care.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
