Doris Ivey Tedder

Doris Tedder passed away at home surrounded by her family on April 7th. Doris passed away three weeks after being diagnosed with cancer.

Doris was predeceased by her husband and sweetheart of 66 years, Walt. She is survived by daughters Carol Lewis, Kathy Estridge (Rick), son Mike Tedder (Kathy); grandchildren Jason Lewis (Cody), Ashley Lewis, and great-grandchildren Tyler, Maddy, Erika, Tanner, and Carson.

Doris grew up in Burlington, NC and was the youngest of five children born to Henry and Eliza Ivey. She was predeceased by her three brothers, Harrison, John, Don, and her sister Gladys. After graduating High School, Doris moved to Charlotte where she soon met Walt on a blind date. The rest is history.

Although she held several different jobs at different times in her life, she loved and excelled in being a wife, a mother, a grandma, a MawMaw, a friend, and good neighbor.

Doris was a lifetime member of St. John’s Baptist Church, where she and Walt raised their family. Doris served at the church in several different capacities. She most recently served as a greeter and a member of the Care Committee. But, the role she enjoyed most was rocking the babies in the nursery on Sunday morning.

Doris loved God, her family and friends above all else. During her retirement years, she and Walt enjoyed traveling with lifelong friends from St. John’s and a group of friends that named themselves ‘The Drifters’. However, their main focus remained spending time with and caring for their family and friends.

A celebration of Life will be held on Thursday April 12 at 1:00PM at St. John’s Baptist Church at 300 Hawthorn Lane, Charlotte NC 28204 with a reception immediately following.

The family requests the memorial gifts be given to Novant Hospice Group, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or St. John’s Baptist Church.
