Cornelia Blalock Whitley

Cornelia Blalock Whitley 93 of Norwood died Friday Morning, May 4, 2018 at Trinity Place.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Norwood Church of the Nazarene. Rev. Derrick Adcock and Rev. Nathan W. Fox will officiate and burial will follow in Norview Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Whitley was born April 17, 1925 in Stanly County to the late Jule and Ollie Haire Blalock. She was a retiree of Collins and Aikman of Norwood, and was the last surviving charter member of Norwood Church of the Nazarene where she remained active until her death. She had served in numerous capacities during her life including Sunday School Teacher and Choir Member.

She will be remembered for love and faithful service to her church and her constant and abiding love she showed to her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. During her last years she enjoyed the companionship of her Kitty Cat “Inky”.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold C. Whitley and her brothers and sisters, James, Charles, Tom, Lugenia and Agnes.

She is survived by her daughter Rita Whitley Simpson and husband John E. “Hook” of Norwood. Two Granddaughters, Johnda Simpson Noble (Marty) of Albemarle and Tonya Simpson Hollis (Michael) of Norwood. Four Great-Grandchildren, Jillian Rhea Noble, Alan Michael, Landon and Kiersten Hollis.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Trinity Place for their loving care during the last month.
