Bobby Ray Johnson, 93, died at Spring Arbor in Albemarle, North Carolina, Saturday, November 9, 2019, of natural causes. Born on October 24, 1926, in Mount Gilead, North Carolina, he attended Mount Gilead High School.
Bob then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard a minesweeper in the Pacific Theater. He then attended King's Business College and later returned to Mount Gilead, where he worked for Carolina Power and Light Company. Bob later worked for and retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
He was a parishioner of the First United Methodist Church of Mount Gilead, a Mason, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He provided loving care of his mother, Rebecca Jones Johnson, and his brother, Carl Allen Johnson, for many years before their deaths.
He was preceded in death by his mother; father, Charlie Robert Johnson; and brothers, Vernon Lee Johnson, Ernest Graham Johnson, and Carl.
He is survived by his sister, Margaret Johnson Marciante of Bethesda, Maryland; his brother, Howard Leon Johnson of Alexandria, Virginia; and his nieces and nephews, Vernon Lee Johnson, Jr., Anne Johnson Dumais, Kenneth Richard Johnson, and Roger Edward Johnson, children of his late brother, Vernon; Emily Perry Johnson, Rebecca Johnson Wines, and Ernest Graham Johnson, Jr., children of his late brother Ernest; Anthony Michael Marciante, son of Margaret; and Paul Alexander Johnson and Lorna Johnson Ernst, children of Howard.
Services will be held on Friday, November 15, 2019, at 12:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Mount Gilead, 100 North Main Street, Mount Gilead. The family will be receiving visitors from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the church during the viewing in the sanctuary. Burial will follow at Bethel Church in Mount Gilead. Edwards Funeral Home in Mount Gilead will be handling all arrangements.
