John "Hook" Simpson

John Elwood “Hook” Simpson 79 of Norwood passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Sunday morning, October 18, 2020 at his home.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Norwood Church of the Nazarene. Rev. Derrick Adcock and Rev. Carroll Moffitt will officiate and interment with military honors will follow in Stanly Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Friends are welcome to pay their respects Monday Afternoon from 3:00 until 5:00 or Tuesday morning from 9:00 until 12:00 at Edwards Funeral Home of Norwood.

Hook was born September 7, 1941 in Stanly County to the late John Grady and Eunice Ingold Simpson. He was a 1960 graduate of Aquadale High School and a veteran of the United States Army. He faithfully attended Norwood Church of the Nazarene and was a retiree of the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

Hook loved his wife and family deeply and especially his grandchildren. He will be lovingly remembered by his many friends as a person who enjoyed laughter and never meeting a stranger.

He is survived by his wife Rita Whitley Simpson of the home. Two daughters, Johnda Simpson Noble (Marty) of Albemarle and Tonya Simpson Hollis (Michael) of Norwood. His brother Ervin Simpson (Betty) of Norwood and his four grandchildren, Jillian Noble, Alan Michael Hollis, Landon Hollis and Kiersten Hollis.

He was preceded in death by his brother Earl Simpson
