Ray Allen Byrd

Ray Allen “Buddy” Byrd, 77 of Norwood passed away Tuesday evening, December 25, 2018, at CMC Stanly Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday December 29, 2018, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Norwood. Rev. Mark Forrest and Rev. Nelson Wright will officiate.  Interment will follow at Holly Mount Baptist Church cemetery in Mt. Gilead.  The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.

Ray was born April 4, 1941 in Montgomery County to the late Lemuel P. and Sally Greene Byrd. He was a member of South Stanly Baptist Church. He was retired from Lorch Heating and Air and had worked as a logger. He loved his Lord and his family. He loved to fish and hunt, especially turkey hunting.

In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his brothers and sisters:  Roy, Johnny, David, Bill, and Bobby Byrd, Lousie Beitzel and Shirley Greene.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marie Gardner Byrd of the home; daughter, Pamela Byrd Cales (Zeb) of Albemarle, grandchildren,  William Allan Parsons, Jr., Christopher Jordan Martinez(Liz) of Albemarle, and Taylor Ray Martinez of Norwood; great-granddaughter, Aubrey Michelle Martinez; and sister, Isabelle Carter of Mt. Gilead; and special friend, Nallo Martinez.
