Jerry Von Thompson, 75, of Mt. Gilead, passed away Friday morning, March 1, 2019 at Atrium Health-Northeast in Concord.
Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Stoney Fork Baptist Church. Rev. Terry Burris and Rev. Richard Price will officiate and interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Edwards Funeral Home in Mt. Gilead.
Jerry was born July 2, 1943 in Montgomery County and is the son of the late Jarrett Alexander Thompson and Pearl Blake Thompson who resides in Mt. Gilead. He was a 1961 Graduate of Mt. Gilead High School and a dedicated member of Stoney Fork Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Chairman of the cemetery committee for many years.
Jerry was a lifelong farmer. He began working as a dairy farmer with his father and brother on Javondale Farms and most recently raised Angus cattle. He loved the land and working outside, and cherished sharing this heritage with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 52 years, Christine Cook Thompson, who he married July 31, 1966. One son, Jacob Thompson, of Denver, Colorado. Three daughters, Yvonne King (Billy) of Wake Forest, Jennifer Aminuddin (Norman) of Charlottesville, Virginia and Jacquelyn Price (Rev. Richard) of Rocky Mount. One brother, Dale Thompson (Sharon) of Mt. Gilead and one sister, Marie Hannah (Gene) of Chiefland, Florida. Nine grandchildren, Elise King, William King, Andrew King, Luke Aminuddin, Claire Aminuddin, Mia Aminuddin, Ethan Price, Caleb Price, and Hannah Price.
He was preceded in death by a sister Sue Thompson Henley.
