Debbie East Cullers, 65, of Mount Gilead, surrounded by her loving family, passed away Tuesday morning, November 29, 2011 at Moore Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM, Friday, December 2, 2011 at Little River United Methodist Church. Rev. Pat Sykes will officiate and interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00, Thursday evening at Edwards Funeral Home in Mount Gilead.
Mrs. Cullers was born December 4, 1945 in Montgomery County, to the late William Farley and Edith Brookshire East. She was a 1964 graduate of West Montgomery High School. She was owner of D & J Apparel, a sewing manufacturing company. After retirement, she designed and made custom drapes. Mrs. Cullers was very active in her church, Little River United Methodist, where she served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Lay Leader and very instrumental in the building of the church fellowship hall and led the way for establishing the Community Dinner program. In her community, she was a member of the Montgomery County Soil & Water Conservation board, Trustee of
BB & T Bank, and past president of the Montgomery County Democratic Women. She enjoyed being outside with her family on the family farm.
She is survived by her husband, John Marion Cullers of the home and daughter Jody Cullers of Fort Worth, Texas and stepson, Jeff Cullers
of Champaign, Illinois; two brothers, Kenneth Stewart East of Mount Gilead, Winston East of Albemarle; three sisters, Margaret McRae and Judy Halstead of Mount Gilead and Shirley Harris of Troy. She will be greatly missed by grandchildren, Jack, Justin, Sara and Emma Cullers and Skylar McRae.
