William Curtis "Ike" Archer, 72, beloved Husband, Daddy and Daddy Bill, of Oakboro, passed away peacefully at his home Thursday evening, October 13, 2011, after a courageous  fight with lung cancer.

He was born on November 21, 1938 in Charleston, WV.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00PM, Sunday,October 16, 2011, at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, 9029 Cottonville Road,  Norwood.  Rev. Mike Burris will officiate and interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Saturday evening at Edwards Funeral Home, 120 College Street, Norwood. 


Bill was a 1967 graduate of Virginia Tech.  He was a successful manager and Vice President with Burlington Industries for 35 years.  Bill could accomplish anything he set his mind to and proved this by successfully receiving his Real Estate Broker's License and General Contractor's License. 
His love of family, grandchildren, church, traveling, golf, friends, and his pets, Herbie, Oliver, Olivia and Abby sustained him through life and
illness. Bill was an active member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church and the Men's Club.


Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Mattie A. Nelson, a brother, Tommy, and a granddaughter, Emily Elizabeth Smith. 

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Harriet Johnson Archer, his daughters, Sarah "Beth" Smith and husband Mark of Norwood; Ammie Archer-Murdock and husband, Brian of Holden Beach, NC and two Grandchildren, Will and Kendall Smith.  He is also survived by his two
brother-in-laws and families and extended family.

The family would like to express many thanks for the quality care and compassion shown to Bill by the staff at Hinson Cancer Center and a
special thanks to Dr. Thomas Steffens as well as Dr. Heather Pacholke and staff, and Chaplain Joe Smith.
