Ruth Mabry Greene, 91, of Mount Gilead died on Friday, August 19, 2011.  She was born on April 28, 1920 in Albemarle, NC to the late John Wesley Mabry and Bessie Mabry Lowder.  She graduated from Albemarle High School in 1937 and attended Pfeiffer College.  She was wed to J B Greene.  This happy union produced four children after the end of WWII, Steve in 1947, Pam in 1949, Alan in 1951 and Penelope (Pinkie) in 1954.  While raising four children, Ruth also served as the pianist/organist and choir director at First Baptist Church in Mount Gilead for many years.  She was an avid reader of historical and mystery novels.  She was an avid baseball fan, especially of the Atlanta Braves.  An excellent seamstress, she provided alteration services to local people for several years.  Ruth is predeceased by her husband, JR Greene, her son Steve, and her brothers and sister, Carl Mabry, Grover Mabry and Julia Griffin. She is survived by her son and daughters, Alan Greene and wife Nancy of Albemarle, NC, Pam Hatley and husband David of Charlotte, NC and Penelope Brookshire of Wasilla, AK.   Her daughter-in-law, Silvia Greene, also survives.  Ruth was the proud grandmother of Brian Hatley (wife Dee-Dee), Jason Hatley (wife Susan), Beverly Brookshire, Joe Brookshire (wife Natalie), Michelle Barringer(husband Adam), Brook Greene, Andrew Greene and Emily Greene.  She was also the great-grandmother of Kayla and Danielle Russell, Nicholas and Dillon Hatley and Sydney Barringer.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 22, at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Mount Gilead, followed by a memorial service in the church sanctuary at 3:00 PM, and then a brief graveside service at Sharon Cemetery.
