April 21, 1926 ~ May 9, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old


Samuel Kendall Miller, 91, of Richfield passed away early Tuesday morning, May 9, 2017 at his home.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Joe Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

He was born April 21, 1926 in Stanly County to the late David Albertus Miller and Jane Virginia Kendall Miller.  He was a member of Pauls Crossing Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon.  He had been employed with Cook’s Packing and later retired from Young Manufacturing.  Sam along with his wife and children also farmed. 

Sam proudly served his country in first the US Navy during WWII and then he re enlisted in the US Army serving in the Korean War.  He enjoyed camping and traveling.  He enjoyed doing for others and for many summers and Christmases he and his family hosted children from the Oxford Orphanage.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Doug Miller and an infant; five brothers and one sister.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years,  Louise Herlocker Miller of the home; son, Dwight Miller of Richfield; daughters, Brenda Palmer(Lamar) of Richfield, Wanda Little (Billy) of Marshville, Evelyn Bowen(Danny) of Richfield and Debra Taylor(Michael) of Albemarle; eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
