Raymond Palmer Edwards, 85, of Mount Gilead, died Wednesday, April 05, 2017 at Forrest Oakes Healthcare Center in Albemarle.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Mount Gilead First Baptist Church. Dr. Roger Thomas will officiate and burial will follow in Sharon Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
Ray was born August 25, 1931, in Littleton, N.C., to the late Otis Erwin and Laura Mandy Harrison Edwards.
Mr. Edwards was a member of Mount Gilead First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He retired as Town Clerk for the Town of Mount Gilead after twenty-two years of service.
He was a 33rd degree Master Mason and a past Master of Blackmer Lodge #127, where he served as treasurer for many years. He was a member of Oasis Temple and Scottish Rite.
He was a caring son, loving husband, and thoughtful brother and brother-in-law. He loved his family, church and community. Ray communicated with his siblings on a regular basis, was the fun uncle to his nieces and nephews, and one who could always be depended on if you needed him. His positive attitude and often humorous reflections will be greatly missed.
Survivors are his wife of 20 years, Jean Chapman Edwards; a brother, Rev. Kennyon (Vi) Edwards of Ann Arbor, Michigan; and a sister, Christine Edwards Sine of Orlando, Florida; sister in law, Ann Edwards of Winston-Salem; five nieces and five nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Cliff Edwards, Sr. and James Edwards.
