Samuel Lamar Smith, 82, of Polkton, passed away Friday evening, February 24, 2017, at Stanly Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, February 27, 2017, at Rocky River Baptist Church. Rev. Dennis Stegall will officiate and interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00, Sunday evening at Rocky River Baptist Church fellowship hall.
Mr. Smith was born December 17, 1934, to the late David Victor and Frances Braswell Smith. He was a faithful member of Rocky River Baptist Church. He was a textile retiree and a US Army veteran.
In addition to his parents he is predeceased by one brother, David V. Smith, and three sisters, Vernell Helms, Stella Griffin, and Barbara Godwin.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Conseen Smith of the home, one brother, John Smith and wife Brenda of Peachland; one sister, Doris Quinn and husband Tom of Surprise, Az., and many nieces and nephews.
