Kenneth Robert Gathings

Kenneth Robert Gathings Sr., 80 years old, of Norwood, passed away peacefully Monday March 12, 2018 at his home.

He was born October 1, 1937 to the late William Thomas and Beulah Mae Swink Gathings. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and a retired employee of N.C. Department for Corrections.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Robert Gathings Jr. in 2008

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Mary Joyce Simpson Gathings; two daughters: Karen Gathings Striker (Robert) of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Kelly Gathings Ramsey(Russell) of Norwood, NC; Six grandchildren: Stephen Christopher Ramsey, Mark Anthony Ramsey, Robert James Striker, Katherine Jewel Striker, Amanda Faith Stiker, and Kyle Anthony Striker; and one great-grandchild: Tiffany Lynn Ramsey. Three brothers: Wayne Gathings of Lilesville, NC, Kermit Gathings of Wadesboro, NC, and Thomas Gathings of Burlington, NC; one sister: Sara Morton of Richfield, NC.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday March 18, 2018 at Memorial Baptist Church in Norwood NC at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
