Julia Huneycutt Carpenter

Julia Huneycutt Carpenter, 93, of Norwood passed away Sunday evening, June 25, 2017 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM, Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Green Memorial Methodist Church.  Rev. Ron Dry will officiate.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Carpenter was born February 10, 1924 in Stanly County to the late John Calvin and Lillie Mae Hinson Huneycutt.  She was a graduate of Aquadale High School, where she was voted prettiest of her class.   She was also a graduate of Queens Business College.  Julia served as a volunteer with LPN WWII effort in Charlotte.  Julia flew to Panama to marry her childhood sweet heart in a U.S. military wedding upon his discharge after WWII.  Julia enjoyed five years living and working in Panama.

She worked at Mutual S & L, Haverty’s Furniture, Panama Canal Administration and retired after 25 years service with Aquadale School.Returning to the U. S. in 1953, she supported her husband in community efforts, including building of the Aquadale Fire Dept., Lions Club, Woodman of the World, Home Demonstration Club and a member of Green Memorial Methodist Church.

In retirement she enjoyed dancing, and trips with the Senior Center.

A daughter, sister, wife and mother, she will be missed.  She believed in angels and is now a member.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Clay Tom Carpenter, brothers, Ralph, Hurley, Bill, Ted and Bobby.

She is survived by three children, Clay T. Carpenter, Jr. and wife, Linda of Atlanta, GA, Gerald E. Carpenter and wife, Joann of Albemarle and Wanda J. McCorkle and husband, Douglas of Cary; four grandchildren, Paula Carpenter, Julie Bereman, Callie Andrew, and Stuart Carpenter; four great-grandchildren, Maddie, Ani Hendrix, Adlyn and Aubrey Rose.
