Mrs. James was born July 13, 1928, to the late James Little and Hattie Haywood Robinson.  She was a faithful member at First Baptist Church in Mount Gilead. She graduated from Mt. Gilead High School in 1946 and went to beautician school in Charlotte.  She returned home and worked as a beautician.  In 1949, her brother Wade introduced her to her soul mate, Howard James, whom she married and they shared their life together until his death in 1996. They were meant for each other. She then worked for the school system as a secretary to the principal before going to work for Dr. Armstrong. While working for Dr. Armstrong she obtained her license as an LPN.  After Dr. Armstrong’s death, she went to work for Montgomery Memorial Hospital where she was instrumental in setting up the computers for the medical records department.  She worked there until her retirement.  Outside of work and family, she loved her church and was there any time the doors were open. One of her biggest joys was singing in the choir, which she did for over 50 years.  She was a past member and past president of the Chi Sigma Club and the Order of the Eastern Star.  She loved family gatherings and played a big role in having holiday gatherings at her home.  She loved to play bridge and spend time with her grandson.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Howard Carson James; brothers, Coot, Clyde, Jess, and Wade Robinson; and sisters, Pauline Greene and Addie Belle Haywood.

She is survived by her son, Ted and wife Judy of Wake Forest, grandson, Randy Carson James of Raleigh, and brother, Charlie Robinson and wife Dianne of Mt. Gilead.  She was loved and will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: First Baptist Church P.O. Box 207 Mt. Gilead, NC 27306 or Hospice of Richmond County 1119 N. US Hwy 1 Rockingham, NC 28379.
