Ann (Kitchin) Lee

       Ann Kitchin Lee of Norwood, NC passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter on June 8, 2017 surrounded by her family.

        Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, June 12, 2017 at Memorial Baptist Church in Norwood.  Rev. Nathan Fox and Rev. Josh Phillips will officiate and interment will follow in Norview Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 7:00PM until 9:00PM, Sunday evening, June 11, 2017 at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood.

            Ann was born February 18, 1936 in Lumberton, NC to Margaret and Lawton Kitchin.  She grew up in Maxton, NC and graduated from Maxton High School.  As a freshman at Wake Forest College in Wake Forest, NC she met David Arthur Lee, a Yankee from Albany, New York who became the love of her life.  They were part of the Wake Forest College transition to the Winston-Salem campus and were in the first graduating class in Winston-Salem. 

            In 1963, Ann and David moved to Norwood, NC with their two young daughters.  She was an educator for 35 years primarily teaching many 5th graders at Norwood Elementary School.  In addition to being a Wake Forest graduate she received her Master’s Degree from UNCC.

            She was very active in church and civic organizations.  After retirement from teaching and the loss of her beloved spouse in 1998 she found joy in world travel, gardening, volunteering, her church, friends, and most especially her family.  She was so proud of her six grandchildren and was an active and vital part of their lives. 

            She is preceded in death by her husband, David A. Lee, her parents, Margaret Prevatte Kitchin and Lawton Ward Kitchin, and her sister, Mary Ellen K. Creech.  She is survived by her brother, Lawton Ward “Sonny” Kitchin, Jr. and sister-in-law, Linda F. Kitchin of Warsaw, NC.  She is also survived by daughters, Catherine Lee Williams and husband, Lonnie B. Williams, Jr. of Wilmington, NC and Lianne Lee Watson and husband, Dr. John W. Watson of Makanda, IL.  Also surviving are her six precious grandchildren, Margaret Williams Keasler and husband, Andrew Keasler, Diana Williams Johnson and husband, Tyler Johnson both of the Raleigh, NC area, Philip W. Watson, Susan Watson Grotts and husband, Lucas Grotts, Leigh Ellen Watson and John D. Watson all of Illinois.
